Nikolausmarkt 2017

Three Circle members visited Heusenstamm for the annual Nikolausmarkt in the Altstadt, our chairman David Packer and Sue and Stuart Murray and they experienced the usual intensive weekend. The weather was similar to here - cold, with snow on the Sunday, which reduced the number of visitors to the market. Consequently not all of our goods were sold, though as in the past they are likely to be bought by our German friends in the New Year.

On the Friday the English guests were taken to Darmstadt as well as a nearby village where there is a museum to Georg Büchner, an author revered by the Germans for what he achieved in his short life of 23 years.

Saturday saw the Kantorei Adventslieder concert, with the dinner for the twinning delegations in the evening, made even more special because of the award of the Kulturpreis to both Friendship Circles – “our” Freundschaftskreis and the Freundeskreis, which is the twinning link with the other twinned towns.

On Sunday they attended the lunch for the leaders of the twinning delegations, the two sessions of English carols led by Rosie Hippe, and the final farewell dinner given by the Freundschaftskreis.
